now, why would you want to waste a beautiful sunny afternoon like the one
we had just yesterday and spend it in a packed mall? vomit.
Brandon:
give the gift of art! so i understand that not everyone is as talented as sophie (thanks sophie! "donkeys without borders" depicting the ubiquitous donkeys of lamu island, by sophie lodge) or as leah, but buying gifts often becomes the easy way out, doesn't it?
or the hard way out. here i am in one of the world's poorest countries, with people dying on my doorstep because they haven't got enough to eat; at home, i hear, people are dying on the doorsteps of megastores because they've been trampled or shot in the crazed mêlée as they fight their way to the merriest Christmas discounts. during a world economic recession. this makes me want to vomit. honestly; is it not time to say "enough"?

Yay for Shane - Leah have you read Jesus for President? I agree about being outside, unfortunately I was/will be staring at the wall in my office.
Brandon I agree - we somehow view Christmas (holidays in general), love, giving and our lives in a solely monetary bent. I will confess this is the first year I bought 75% of my gifts from World Vision, and I have wondered how they will be received. The other 25% are getting considerably smaller gifts then normally. I guess it all comes down to belief, if we are going to change anything we need to model it in our lives.
I almost did vomit when I heard about someone being trampled trying to SHOP. Gag. If that is not a perfect picture of how disgustingly warped the American consumer psyche has become, I don't know what is.
Another great gift, which my parents are getting, is the gift of advocacy for someone who doesn't have an advocate (through International Justice Mission).
you both said "vomit." well done.
lucky me, i don't live by any stores.
I <3 this blog so much! Keep up the good work guys!
thanks for sharing that youtube video. .. i dig s.claiborne's passion for life, love, justice & jesus.
